Raising Texas Teachers (RTT) awards the Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers, a $10,000 scholarship and professional development support, to individuals interested in teaching in Texas. 

 


 

The Best and Brightest

Through the Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers, Trinity University aims to enroll the best and brightest leaders who are passionate about teaching and learning.

Applicants to Trinity University’s Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program who plan to teach in Texas may apply for one year of the award, totaling $10,000.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in or applying to an educator preparation program at one of 11 Texas universities selected to partner with RTT 
  • Demonstrate a strong academic record and leadership skills
  • Commit to teaching in a high-need school or high-need teaching field in Texas following graduation*
  • Be a Texas resident (non-Texas residents may be considered on a case-by-case basis)
  • Be a U.S. citizen

*High-need schools are defined as public schools in which at least 50% of enrolled students meet the requirements for the federal free and reduced lunch program. High-need teaching fields include bilingual education, English language acquisition, mathematics, science, and special education.
