As part of Trinity’s Digital Transformation (DX) program, faculty and staff made the decision to transition from TLearn to Canvas to provide the Trinity community access to a cutting-edge, 21st-century learning management system (LMS): Canvas.
The existing LMS, T-Learn, was used by approximately 30% of faculty. This limited usage signaled a lack of faculty satisfaction and a need to review alternative solutions.
“When we began this transition to Canvas, we knew faculty adoption had to be a focus,” said Art de los Santos, LMS project manager. “The team set a stretch goal to onboard 70% of the faculty by Spring 2024 and I’m proud to say they’ve surpassed this goal with time to spare.”
With several months to go before TLearn sunsets in January 2024, 70% of full-time faculty and more than 80% of all faculty have published at least one course on Canvas.
Not only has Canvas proven to deliver improved tools for faculty that empower their teaching, but the project team focused on providing faculty with a variety of training—from online and in-person, to group and individual sessions.
“We still have more to do to ensure faculty are comfortable using Canvas and to onboard others who choose to use the system,” said Michelle Bartonico, senior strategist and project manager, PPMO-COE. “But, I’m proud of the team’s dedication to meeting faculty where they are, whether that is through one-on-one appointments or crafting training materials. It is a real testament to positive results from a commitment to organizational change management."

Faculty should expect continued training and support throughout the semester and even after TLearn sunsets in January 2024.
